Senior High Art Program
We offer a strong traditional Fine Art program at CHHS. Over 140 senior High students take part in our visual art program every year.
In class, students are encouraged to explore, express their ideas and develop their own style in a comfortable and non-threatening atmosphere. Most assignments are based on students’ interest and skills involving in various art media such as acrylic/oil paint, watercolor, ink, chalk, conte, collage and clay.
Students know that they are allowed to make a mistake and it is a learning process designed to obtain life long skills. A lot of discussion, decision making and risk taking are normal procedures in Senior High Art.
Since CHHS offers a 6-year continuous art program, teachers have the opportunity to identify students’ strengths and weakness as well as their progress in art. By the time they are in the grade 11 and 12, quite a few students achieve high level art skills. Some of them continue studying art after graduation and CHHS has sent many students to Alberta College of Art Design , Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Medicine Hat College, and other art schools.
CHHS students have also been actively involved in many local School Art Exhibitions and Youth Show Cases and have won many art awards in past.
