CHHS Production Field Operator (PFO) Program

The PFO Program is for students interested in getting into Alberta's Oil and Gas Industry.

This program is only available for students to begin in Grade 10.

Qualified students will have the opportunity to enroll in SAIT's Oil and Gas Production Field Operations certificate program while attending high school. Students receive CTS credits toward a high school diploma as well as a post-secondary certificate that meets industry standards.

Industry provides a limited number of summer internships to link classroom learning to the work place. Grade 10 students who do not receive summer internships can continue with the PFO classroom modules in Grades 11 and 12 enabling them to achieve the Production Field Operator Certificate from SAIT. Students may also re-apply for an internship in Grade 11 or 12 if unsuccessful in Grade 10. In addition, Grade 10 students who have successfully completed the theory coursework may participate in the EnCana Energy Camp and the pre-internship Safety Training programs.

PFO Program Criteria

  • Full time Gr10 student
  • 90-95% attendance
  • Regularly on time for classes
  • Applied or Pure Math 10, English 10-1 or 10-2, Science 10
  • Passing ALL courses 60%
  • Excellent School Citizen

CHHS students have had tremendous success in the PFO program in the last 5 years with most of our PFO students successfully enrolled in summer internships with Local Oil and Gas Companies.

Andrew at one of his 3 summer internships with Canadian Natural Resources in 05, 06, and 07. Special thanks to Dale and all the Operators that worked with Andrew over his three summers. Andrew is now a full time Field Operator for Canadian Natural.

Logan U at one of his 2 summer internships with Encana "D" Station in the summer of 06 and 07. Special thanks to Dwight, Rob Y and the other Operators who worked with Logan during his Internships.

Logan T at one of his 3 summer internships with Encana and Niska Gas Storage during the summers of 05,06, and 07. Special thanks to Rob T and the Operators at Nisga Gas who worked with Logan during his internships.
