
Leadership 10
This course is a six credit course that will help students learn important skills in regards to being strong leaders both in their own lives, the school and their community. The course will involve a great deal of group work and projects to cover topics such as Leadership fundamentals, speaking and learning, mentorship, community service, and project management. We look at team building, exploring and building on our own abilities and citizenship. We will help students learn public speaking, presentation skills, communication in person, video and the written language, and interpersonal management. We will look at and volunteerism and its benefits. There is an optional Leadership Conference that will be held during the semester that we would encourage students to attend. Level: Introductory
Description: Students explore basic principles of leadership and evaluate their personal leadership characteristics and qualities. Students develop a plan for their personal growth as a member of a leadership team and examine the various behaviors, skills and roles of team members that contribute to team effectiveness.

Description: Students explain the role of volunteers in a community, perform as a volunteer and evaluate their volunteering experience.
Parameters:. Volunteering must occur in a teacher-approved placement.

Description: Students learn about the characteristics of positive mentoring relationships in their personal lives and society. Students prepare to engage in a mentoring relationship. Students apply basic mentoring skills to a mentoring relationship and explore considerations for safety related to mentoring.

Description: Students develop basic communication skills to improve personal effectiveness with people while providing health, recreation, volunteer and/or support services in the community. Students examine basic ethical and legal considerations for working in these contexts. Students also develop an understanding of learning styles for educating people when providing service in a variety of settings.

Description: Students examine effective communication, public speaking and presentation skills. Students develop and deliver a speech or presentation and apply the principles of effective communication to the evaluation of significant speeches.

Description: Students develop project design and management skills to extend and enhance competencies and skills in other Career and Technology Studies (CTS) courses through contexts that are personally relevant. Students will participate in the planning and execution of a pep rally.
