FNMI

Welcome! Tansi! Oki! Tawnshi!

First Nations, Metis and Inuit Education provides academic support to students who are self-identified on their registration forms as aboriginal. Each of the high schools supports a Legacy Room and one FNMI teacher who works in collaboration with students, families, educators and community members to ensure the success of aboriginal students. Each Legacy Room holds a collection of jewelry, dance outfits and artwork to share aboriginal culture with all students in our district. FNMI teachers also work with classroom teachers to facilitate the awareness and appreciation of aboriginal culture for all students by hosting classes in the Legacy Room to share storytelling, create culturally appropriate crafts and learn traditional games, among many other activities. FNMI Education often hosts guest speakers, authors and performances throughout the year, often in partnership with other departments and community organizations.
